JUMBLED
Jumbled look to harness the power of autobiographical material and direct address, while placing this within richer visual and theatrical worlds.
With a strong sense of play, Jumbled explore how the simplest physical and verbal gestures can produce the most captivating performance. As performers we switch between appearing as ourselves on stage and loosely taking on a character, ‘doing’ it rather than ‘being’ it. We like to acknowledge the reality of the theatrical set up, the presence of the audience and the fact that we’re playing out events for, and sometimes with, them. We also look for ways to position an audience that will surprise and encourage new perspectives on the content. Through collaborations with sound-maker Nick Gill, Jumbled have closely linked live sound with action, to create a multi-layered experience.
Jumbled embraces an openness in our devising process, out of which we believe emerges the life and dynamism of a piece. We find it exciting to continue to investigate form and to draw our material from different genres and theatrical traditions. Our work places an emphasis on the playing out of certain rituals that are openly constructed and disassembled before the audience’s eyes. We seek to work with performers who are artists in their own right and bring their own distinctive qualities to the work.
